first alpha release of #briar desktop:
nico.dorfbrunnen.eu/posts/2020

😻 yeah!!! 👏 I haven't tested it, but I was already waiting for it.

Also:
👉 the developer is looking for a #debian package maintainer. so a boost might help to find that person? :goose_peek:

you have no idea what #birar is?

"#Briar is a messaging app designed for activists, journalists, and anyone else who needs a safe, easy and robust way to communicate.

Unlike traditional messaging apps, Briar doesn’t rely on a central server - messages are synchronized directly between the users’ devices.

If the internet’s down, Briar can sync via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, keeping the information flowing in a crisis.

If the internet’s up, Briar can sync via the Tor network, protecting users and their relationships from surveillance."

I made a page that graphs the confirmed positives as a percentage of total tests which is more informative than just seeing contextless positives.

What is this curve we're trying to flatten? The only curve I see is from an exponential increase in the number of tests!

And this seems to be actively being hidden by the focus only being on the absolute numbers of confirmed positives, which is of course meaningless without knowing how many tests that number is related to!

We're all used to organisations showing us bullshit statistics, so why are we falling for it so hard in this case?

Hey kiwis, do you like the convenience of Uber Eats, but not the corporate reptiles who run it? Don't like the way they screw over both food businesses (35% commission!) and delivery drivers, and datafarm your food preferences with their app? Here's a homegrown replacement, they only charge a 5% commission, and you don't even need to install an app to use it:

if anyone still needs to unload #oil futures, I can store say, 10 barrels onsite in my own container

Just drop off a pallet of 10 kw of solar panels at the same time and we'll call it even

PayPal & p2p money

Aaaand PayPal has blocked our business account again. Every few years they come up with some new BS, basically freezing our money in place.

It still boggles my mind that some people prefer this corporate banking shit show over open-source money and p2p payments. Then again, I assume most of the haters are trying to fight off the cognitive dissonance stemming from most of the left being on the wrong side of history in this regard (the side of banks and authoritarian govs).

#Decentralized Protocol Removed From EU Contact Tracing Website Without Notice - CoinDesk

EU researchers are concerned and confused after their proposal for a decentralized contact tracing system was rejected without explanation.

@angristan Seems pretty biased, e.g.

"The camera kill switch is no better than some tape." - tape is 100% effective.

"Distros like PureOS are not secure at all. They're mostly a reskinned Debian." - Debian is extremely secure.

My Dad just asked my why Libre Office changed the save icon to a down arrow, I showed him this pic to explain 😂

In New Zealand there’s a protocol of putting teddy bears in the windows to make life more interesting for the kids (we’re allowed to go for walks in our local neighbourhood). We put our teddies in place today, they’re about 45 years old 😄

Jitsi working on End-to-End Encryption - jitsi.org/news/e2ee/

😍 This is awesome! Also I think they are one of the only ones that will be able to pull off true e2ee. Because most others intercept audio / video and process on it. Where as jitsi operates as an SFU and selectively forwards streams based on the network conditions of individual clients.

If they needed to actually process the audio / video this would require the bridge to be trusted to decrypt the payloads. Super cool!
